How to Pick Your Purr-fect Pet

First you have to think "Will I be able to give this animal the care and attention it needs?" If the answer is no, then you should not get that animal. If you can't give the animal the care and attention it needs then it won't be happy and you won't be able to have as much fun with it if it were happy. If the animal needs boatloads of  attention, but you can only give it an hour of attention per day, do NOT get that animal! Even if you wanted it just to have it, that wouldn't be fair to the pet.

You have to think of what the animal would act like, if that type of animal is known to not like being held, but all you want to do is cuddle, that type wouldn't be a good mach with you. Or if you're a night person but the animal is diurnal (awake during the day), then it wouldn't be a good match.  Think of what you want out of the animal and if you'll be able to give back to the animal what it wants. If all you want it to do is love you, then you have to send that love (plus more) right back to it!

When you know what kid of animal you want you'll go to the place you're going to get it from (rescue, shelter, breeder, etc..). Say you're at a shelter and you're looking around for you're perfect pet, look for the one who stands out the most to you. Look for the one you first REALLY notice. You may be looking for a poodle, but you end up getting a chihuahua because that was the one who really "spoke" to you.

You also have to look at their attitude. The shelter may say they're shy and avoid contact, but if you were to bring them home they could turn out to be a very playful and love to cuddle! Every animal has it's own personalty, just because a breed overlook says that that breed is aggressive, doesn't mean yours will be.

Remember to always love you pet no matter the size, breed or age. Every animal deserves a loving home and your home may just be the perfect place for a pet! Even if you can't own an animal you can still volunteer at a rescue and spend time with those animals.
